Hands

Continuation from yesterday's drawing.
Trying to decide how the arm and hand should
be structured...

Azma WIP

Won't say too much...
Once I finish drawing over the original
pen drawing, I'll explain what he is.

My character

I happen to dig up my concept of my character
in DnD. Since my scanner was acting weird I had
to use my camera and patch them together-- and
chose to draw over it.
The armor concept was a mixture of samurai armor
and knight's armor. Also it seems like I designed the
helmet, where normally I don't do so because it covers
up the face which communicates expression to others.
Hence I often create knight characters without helmets.
Ironic because the helmet is where you see the influences
of both armors.

Fourth

and the last of the kids in the story.
She's a sassy (or almost insolent)
in the way she talks, and at the same
time she acts as the brain of the group.

The third

character of the four kids. He's the
energetic type.

By the way, I met my sculpture teacher
from college at my workplace. It's nice
getting back in touch.

Fix

Made some small tweaking due to weird
areas that I found.

And I'm kind of mentally exhausted, so
that's it for today...

Twin

sister of yesterday's kid I drew. Almost all twins
I know have different (or opposite) personalities.
She's a reflection of that.

By the way, I was so mad today. I saw a deer standing
on the side of the road, but failed to snap some
reference photos. By the time I got my camera out
it ran away.. Missed such a great opportunity...!

Back to 2D

I feel soooo comfortable drawing.
It's one of the four kids that play a decent
role in my Ladybird series. He's the easiest
one to draw for some reason. Maybe because
his personality is close to mine?

And I chose to sketch the kids because I've
been illustrating kids around this age group.
It's a nice practice.

Bottles

2nd 3ds max practice piece. It's like,
3D done 10 years ago. I need to start
playing around with textures and lighting
as soon as possible.

....

Don't ask... It's like bucket or something.
It's my first 3ds max work, I feel ZBrush
to be much easier to operate.
2 reasons for starting 3D out of the blue:
1. I'd love to know 3D.
2. I wanted to see how much Photoshop CS4
can handle with 3D objects.

Wow to nature

Two things I encountered today.

There's a grasshopper-like insect in
the image. Well hidden!

If you stare too long, it'll become like
Escher's drawings, but the two cherries
on the top left are being held in mid-air
by the apple and cherry to it's side.

fell asleep

while I was working on the illustration.

I needed to pull out the armor detail
sheet to paint the structure of the knee
protector/ plate.

HP update

Updated a commission illustration I did for
my friend Caleb. This is the second one of
the three, utilizing only Photoshop.

Network issues...

I was freaking out thinking I won't be able
to send my client the files, but thankfully
everything is back to normal.

Currently filling out forms for to extend the
internship as a paid position, it's like...
twice the amount I need to read and sign.
I hate contracts and forms...

For the illustration, I'm starting to wrap up the
image. I'm sure everyone's getting bored at
me working on small things every day.
Here's an overview:

Faces

Tweaked both faces. So subtle
it's hard to see the difference (even
with previous version placed next
to it.)

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Designs, designs

working into the details yet keeping
it from looking too overworked as
a whole image.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

Details

of the armors are being added.
Kind of struggling to get a metallic
feel from the small details with the
brush I'm using. (It creates a brushy
look when I use a smaller size)

Friday, August 14, 2009

the face

Added a few touch to the faces because
it was looking odd with the figures being
rendered, but the faces still in the
pencil stage.

Fixed

the sword and the sheath. I probably repainted
more than 70% from yesterday's progress.
And that weird yellow orb thing is cat's eye,
although it won't look like that in real life.
I like to put jewelry and stuff on weaponry. Although
in this case there's more meaning for using that
stone other than design's sake.

Mistake

After rendering the sheath, I realized
that I drew it wrong... Parts are flipped
around and small details are completely
wrong. I hate being tired.

Bleh

My rain's fried after working on hours of
translation stuff... At least there's one less
job I have to worry about.

Illustration:

cleaning the armors, took out shadows
from the coat.

Textures

Struggling with the textures of the armor.
Slick piece of metal is definitely easier to
render but doesn't work for my view of
armors, which should've gone through
countless beating and scratches.
Maybe an old pan might have a similar
texture?

Juggling

with 4 different jobs, and all I worked on
for this illustration are the legs. I have
tendency of forgetting to render the feet,
so I chose to work on that portion in the
beginning. The rest of the day was spent
doing the other 4 jobs...

Headaches

getting worse and worse everyday, sometimes
I just want to crack a hole into my skull and
let the blood or anything that causing the pain
to go away. (well, the pain's from stress, so
it wouldn't be solved that way and if it did, it
means I have serious injury in my head)
I don't no why the act of living needs to be so
painful physically+ mentally...

By the way, I started rendering the figures and
painting over the contour lines. Suffering the
tediousness of the commission logo piece...

Rendering

the stone bridge and simplified the
backgrounds.

Thursday, August 6, 2009

The bridge

Simplified the bridge, which ended up making it
look more bridge like. And thanks to the city for
doing lot of construction, couldn't get a good
reference of the stone tiled bridge I was hoping to get.
Eh, at least it worked out enough.

Background

Although there is a forest in the background,
all the trees have withered away. The water
are tainted, there are no sign of life other than
the two in the foreground.

Comparison

between the two pieces.
Blue Hour Golden Hour
Artificial surroundings Nature

How will these two characters meet...?

Monday, August 3, 2009

Laying base colors

of each objects. If I could have,
I would've mixed environmental
colors to it today but unfortunately
with the headache I'm going to bed
soon. So much for the mind numbing
searching of files that didn't exist at
work today. (Joking)
The color study will be finished tomorrow!

Time to

call it complete for the value study.
I usually spend 10~20min. on personal illustration
every day, so it's just moving too slow. So before
I get bored or start being too meticulous I need to
move on. (The shadings are already getting to that
point.)

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Subtle

highlights are added to help the back lighting
affect and the feeling of textures.
After I push the shades a little more, I will
bw moving on to the next step.
