Reupload

Due to problem with the server, I had
to upload two updates worth of file.
Just an extra work that I would rather
not do (especially when I'm tired from
lots of thing going on)

Foot

Tried cutting as much poly as possible
but still keeping the form.
At this point it is under 40 poly. I may
be able to take out a few more.

3D male fig. progress

I'm actually starting to feel 3D modeling
is fun.
Currently at 273 poly. I may aim for PSP
graphic instead of going crazy like those
in movies.

Flora sketch 02

Second idea sketch of the first
painting. I may need to get some
reference if I'm going to go with
this composition..

Tetralogy

Starting a tetralogy of work with my ladybird series.
I've had some fans willing to buy paintings of that
series and were interested in the concept so I will
be starting it. Not sure when all of them will be completed,
but I am aiming for end of the year.

Here's the first thumbnail sketch of the 1/4 paintings.

This title will probably be called "Flora." (Subject to
change.)

Progress

The illustration is making its progress. Although
I'm only half way from full success.

And the Halloween illustration is complete:

Is it possible?

So, at work I was given a feedback that doesn't
sound possible to illustrate. I guess it's more like
an alternative version that they want me
to try and figure out.
If I actually make this happen, it's like killing
5 birds in 1 stone.

First half

of the mass update complete.
I still have few more changes to do,
so I am not changing the update date
until they are finished.

The mummy

kid on the far right's my favorite. My
original thought was that he was forced
to dress up as a mummy by the other three.
But it also looks like he was injured severely.

I wish I had more time for personal stuff
or time to hang out with my friends... at
least I want to do that on weekends.

Line art

Initial vector line art.
Trying to get used to this drawing
style more...

Friday, October 16, 2009

Phew..

Whenever I do package layouts and other
design jobs the whole day, I had no problem
drawing after I got back from work.
But when I illustrate for 8 hours it's a different
story. I really did not feel like picking up the
pencil to do some personal drawings after
work.

Sketch I did today:

top logo

Applied same texture as the one that is being
used for the menu icons. It's one of my favorite
traditional Japanese design.
They've got a lot of dynamic designs.

Web buttons

Sample button I've created for my page
that'll have a tweaked layout soon.
I'm trying out different shapes that
is easy to see and cool at the same time.

What the..?

Originally I was coming up with design to
use for crests & details of Oberon/ Titania's
costume. For some reason it turned into
sword designs...

Rain, rain, rain

I seriously have had enough of this rain. It's
almost two weeks straight of rainy day.

Sig:"Hey, if I catch a cold it's all your fault."
That's the kind of face he's making.

Alternative costume for Oberon

Version 0.02
Went for stereotypical king's look,
but took out his sleeves to emphasize
his muscles. I'm going to have fun
drawing him.

Speed and Knife

I was browsing through the CD area at a Japanese
store after work, and found a special edition of
one of my favorite band. It's a little pricey even
if it's "special," but I got it for the live DVD that's
included. That'll make me feel better.
Because yeah... it was $20 for a single CD. I hate
imports.

So for those of that care enough to read further,
the band's called the Cro-Magnons, a band created
by Hiroto and Marcy or ex- Blue Hearts. And the
single CD's titles "Speed and Knife." Unfortunately
the live did not include that title, but they did sing my
favorite song, "Eight Beat." (A song that pretty much
shouts the will to live.)

In this quickie, I drew the two main guys (Hiroto to
the left and Marcy to the right.) Watching their
performance, I can't believe these two are in their
late 40's jumping around everywhere.

Whole figure

of yesterday's character. I'll probably
make an alternative clothing for her relaxing
moments. Same goes with other characters
with armor; no one walks around in a
full plate armor all day, right?

Portfolio

Because I really can't use the illustration and
designs from the company, all I could do build
my portfolio is to do personal pieces.
Thankfully, I'm getting few buyers of my Ladybird
series that I could add. So, I'm reworking some
of the character concepts.

olympic

So, Chicago wasn't selected for 2016 Olympic.
To be honest, I'm glad about that. I don't live
in the city, but the county extends to our neighborhood
and we pay same rates as the people living in the
city but without (almost) any benefits for paying
taxes. And they would've raised it more if we had
the Olympic in Chicago.
And there would be a lot of annoying tourists,
making a trip to my friend's place stressful.

Below is a piece I did two years ago for school,
but looks like this isn't worth anything now.

But yeah.. it's one of my early Illustrator piece,
everything is... pretty bad.

Sumi

getting back into my sumi style since I haven't
done it for so long, was afraid that I'll forget
how to.

Proportion

Even if it's going to take me a lot of time,
I need to slowly put emphasis in 3D modeling
skills. So I chose to draw out the most generic
figure using grid system. Seems like I have
tendencies of elongating faces.

for work

Concept thumbnails for upcoming
project. I'm hoping that I don't
have to deal with changes after the
pencil stage, when I've already
gone too far for any.

Headaches

Had to stop drawing due to horrible headaches.
The third castle concept.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

fog x night

This was kind of what the streets looked like
when I was driving my friend home--
There were no street lights and it was foggy
out, allowing us to see 10ft. front of us. The
road ahead actually looked like it was chopped
off like the illustration, giving us an illusion
that there was nothing in front.
Probably amazing for horror movies/ games.

Birds or cats

Trying to figure out whether I am going to
create statues using bird or cat family as a
motif. (All armors and clothes are based on
the above animal groups in this kingdom.)

Rough idea

of Oberon's castle. I may change the
pillars into a statue, a shape inspired
by some random object I saw lying in
the middle of the street during the
commute to my workplace.

Oberon- revised

Mainly made adjustments to the cheekbone
and nose to give him more of the Wrestler
Triple H look.
I may narrow his eyes a little more.

for the character Oberon in my Ladybird series.

Getting some rest

This was me during the weekend when I wasn't
doing any house work/ shopping.
So to answer the last post, that's the posture
when I am extremely tired. For some reason it
allows me to relax when I'm alone or not cuddling
something.

Marionette

It kind of looks like a broken marionette.
Tomorrow, the reason behind this awkward
figure sketch will be revealed... (or maybe
not?)

Struggle

From memory, 10 minutes.

Today at my internship, my friend and I were
talking about body parts that we struggle
drawing. We both have concluded that feet are
hard to draw without reference.
Other than the feet, I find lower torsos to be
inconsistent. That is, most times I have no problem
drawing them, but there are times when I won't be able to
capture the correct structure at all.

Fixing

the two illustrations...
10 extra minutes to each one of them.

Monday, September 14, 2009

If I did the Phantom,

25 min.
I kind of felt necessary to do Christine.
But because I did this while I was half-asleep,
I'd like to revisit it and make it better.

Behind the Mask

20 minutes.
Just happened to listen to some of my
CDs with Phantom of the Opera today,
and couldn't resist the urge to do an
illustration of the Phantom.
Just like Holmes, he's been one of my favorite
characters from old novels, but never was
satisfied by the interpretations of the movies.

Especially the one released in 2004... I understand
the need to show the actor's face, but couldn't
stand that mask. That was more like Two-face to me.

So, this is my version of the Phantom, (took out
the hat because I was tired) symbol of despair and
love.

Clouds

30 min. drawing.
When I am tired or feeling down, I love watching
the clouds.

Friday, September 11, 2009

Blue Sky

One of the song that saved me when I was a child.
I was listening to it in the car, and did a simple
album cover.
I need some Japanese fonts before this thing could
be considered compete.

Horizon

A very loose drawing of the Lake Michigan
by holding the pen with two fingers. It helps
when you want to do something very gestural.

I've never really seen an ocean, but I feel Lake
Michigan is close enough.

Considered

this illustration to be worth more than a
"15 min. sketch," so developed it a little
more. Not to much, because that'll be
distracting.

Different

Tried out a different color scheme than usual.
Well, brown x blue is nothing special, but the
use of this much percentage of white was a challenge.
(I love using darker colors)

HP Update

Updated my page, an illustration kind of
different from my usual style.

foot study

with part of a dress.
It looks ghostly.

Early update

because I may not be able to update it tonight.

It was foggy this morning, which inspired me to
do a quick piece depicting fog. I've done a piece
with a fog in the past (The Hound of the Baskervilles)
but still in the process of figuring out how to capture it.

logo

After working at the internship for a
while, I felt more confident using Illustrator.
So I've revised small details on the logo for
my Ladybird series.
Above is before and bottom is after.
...Ended up only using the functions that I've
been using before I worked at the internship.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

uh......

I'll be honest here. What I drew is complete randomness,
it's not making a statement or anything. (or at least I'm
not aware of it)
It kind of started with a skeletal figure drawing and kind of
went chaotic. Although I do like how I rendered the lower
torso with the skin...

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

20 minutes

I just love doing quick studies and drawings.
It gives the motif liveliness and feeling of
energy.

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

30 min. drawing

For some reason, I really felt like doing a
quick sketch focusing on the hair. Most
likely because I'm still struggling about
ways to render a hair that I feel comfortable
with.
And it's a great practice drawing loosely
when I give myself a short amount of time.

Hands

Continuation from yesterday's drawing.
Trying to decide how the arm and hand should
be structured...

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Azma WIP

Won't say too much...
Once I finish drawing over the original
pen drawing, I'll explain what he is.

My character

I happen to dig up my concept of my character
in DnD. Since my scanner was acting weird I had
to use my camera and patch them together-- and
chose to draw over it.
The armor concept was a mixture of samurai armor
and knight's armor. Also it seems like I designed the
helmet, where normally I don't do so because it covers
up the face which communicates expression to others.
Hence I often create knight characters without helmets.
Ironic because the helmet is where you see the influences
of both armors.

Fourth

and the last of the kids in the story.
She's a sassy (or almost insolent)
in the way she talks, and at the same
time she acts as the brain of the group.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

The third

character of the four kids. He's the
energetic type.

By the way, I met my sculpture teacher
from college at my workplace. It's nice
getting back in touch.

Fix

Made some small tweaking due to weird
areas that I found.

And I'm kind of mentally exhausted, so
that's it for today...
